new york has been a fine balance of kid time and friend time. I definitely wanted to make sure the boys had a fun vacation and weren't sitting in an apt with a sitter for their trip, but I also wanted to squeeze in all the fun stuff with all our friends that live here and came to visit this weekend. (and get some good scooters cruises in....we all borrowed scooters from friends in the city and they don't exactly mix with kids.)
we ended up having a few sitters at night, usually after the kids were already asleep and one afternoon during a LONG nap they both needed. It was nice to scooted around with everyone. having a scooter really opens up your possibilities. You can have dinner somewhere, then head to a park across town to listen to music, then head somewhere else for dessert. You wouldn't move as much if you were having to pay cab fees or hike to the subway for each leg.
i forgot. I forgot how smelly the city is. and how you feel like your senses are assaulted at every turn. I also forgot how inspiring the city is. My eyes cant't take it all in fast enough. the clothes everyone is wearing, the decor in the restaurants, the architecture. I love it, but i can not believe we lived here. I just keep thinking, how can anyone live here? But they do and some thrive. I loved it when we lived here, but MAN....I'm so excited to get back to CA. :)
