Parker decided that Mia was his best friend the day we moved to San Diego, a year and a half ago. Since then, they have spent hours upon hours playing together. At least 3x a day, Parker asked me if Mia is home from school and if she can play. Mia is always nice to Parker and at least acts like he is one of her best friend--even when she is surrounded by a gaggle of her girlfriends. Last month, her and Nate stayed with us for 5 days while Matt and Laurie where out of town. It was Parker's version of heaven. They played and played and played. And he didn't have to share her with any of her other friends. They get along so well together, I have never once had to intervene. Never once has one of them come to me complaining about something the other one did.  Parker ran up to the guest room the day after she left, and I found him in a heap, bawling on the floor, so sad that her suitcase (and Mia) were gone. I reminded him that Mia lives 8 houses away and we would still get to see her everyday, "but it's not the same mom" I was told.

I keep waiting that sad, sad, yet inevitable day to come. The day that they realized that she's 2 years older. Or that she is a girl and he is a boy, and their interests' pull them in different directions. When she isn't around, he is all legos, cars and mud. But the second he's with her, he enters some trance as if it is true love and he's happy to play house or cook the day away. She has the biggest imagination and has been very influential with Parker developing a very active imagination-something I love about their time together.

Let's hope it last at least through the summer and maybe a little longer??
