I love Christmas sooo much that I don't want to miss a single part of it. Not one choir performance or one tradition. I also really want to make sure that the true meaning of Christmas is at the forefront all month long. For me, it can be really hard to focus on the birth of Christ and have the right spirit of Christmas in my home, when I get so consumed with all the other details- which I know may not really matter, but I just really like sewing the perfect gift for someone (or ten people) and making all the treats and seeing all the lights, etc.
In an effort to bring more peace to our home -and to my life- in December, I decided to make the last week of September my "Christmas in September" week. I realize that there are people out there, that every year get all their christmas shopping done in the summer or who have no problem ordering their Christmas cards, getting all shopping and projects done, while remaning fully calm in December. I am not one of those people. So I had to make an official week and it is here. This coming week I will be figuring out Christmas cards, updating my address list, working on some sewing and photo projects and getting in some Christmas shopping.
I know it's early to be thinking about all of these things, but it's before Halloween hits and before Thanksgiving travels... it just feels like a good time.
I got a little jump start this past week. I've been wanting to make little quilts for Parker and Miles (there is only so many things you can sew for boys) and I decided to make the for Christmas. I started miles' a while ago so it's almost done, but I needed to just start parker's. It was really simple, so it's already done. For the top, I could hardly find any boy fabrics I liked, so when I found this fabric of little plaid fabrics already pieced together it was perfect- Looks fancier and more difficult than it was was to make. I love the pattern on the back and it's a really soft flannel. I did my usual diagonal X's across the whole thing to hold the front, back and batting together and it's done.
I can't wait to wrap it up and put it under the tree!
