Last Saturday, I competed in a Dual-athlon at Camp Pendleton. It was pretty fun to be racing again. It was a 5k run, then a 30k bike (18.5 miles), then another 5k. I signed up a few months ago and started training. Since I've never really biked before, I was more worried about the bike than the run. I would train on days that park had preschool. Miles and I would drop him off, then head to this bike path that went out to Torrey Pines Beach. I would strap miles in the baby seat on the back of my huffy, place his 2 sippys (had to make sure and keep him hydrated-i think the wind made him drool more) and snack in my bike basket on front, and off we'd go. We were quite a site while biking on a path that consisted of only people on real bikes with clip in pedals. But....the training payed off, I felt strong during my race and was happy with my finish. And I had one cute cheering section. Every time I past my little family, Parker would run along with me until he got tired.
We drove straight from the race a few hours NE to meet some friends and Matt and Laurie at a lakehouse on Lake Arrowhead, near Big Bear. The views were amazing and the kids all had a blast. Above is a picture of my kayaking right when we got there. I don't think i had even showered from my race. I sure slept well that night!
