His reading has been really taking off and he's proud that he's reading his first "chapter books"-Magic Treehouse. For the first time, he's having to write sentences on his own at school. He hates having stuff spelled wrong so he always asked me instead of just writing what he thinks it may be. i've really been encouraging him to just write it how he thinks and it's still OK. I was looking at his homework yesterday and one of the question said "when is your birthday?" he wrote May nife. so cute. It's exactly how he says May 9th I realized. It could be hard to spell if you are still learning how to talk :).
Miles has been killing me lately with his smile and about everything that comes out of his mouth. About a month ago my happy boy came back. He had an grumpy streak for about 6 months. Still smiled all the time, but he wasn't nice to parker and he wasn't his happy go lucky self. Now he's happy 90% of everyday. we had a 5 minute conversation yesterday were I took note that he smiled the ENTIRE time- no matter who was talking. we were in my bed, I was lying down and he was sitting next to me. I had already gotten park off to school and craig was unpacking and repacking for his flight out this morning. I wish for the life of me I could remember what we were talking about. It could have been Mario characters. It could have been his friends. It could have an adventure he'd been on with dad. there's actually a good chance it was Pancho.
that boy talks about and analyzes his dog more than a first time mother does with her newborn. All the day long I listen to him talk about pancho. "mom! Look! Pancho ate all of his breakfast! oh good boy panchie!" "Look mom! now panch can look straight up at the ceiling with his stretchy neck." "Panchie's sleeping so he can grow super big." "mom! Pancho's tongue is so long he can reach the back of my throat when I open my mouth big enough."
The other day I was in the pool with Parker and friends. miles was lying under the outdoor bed with Pancho in the shade. I said miles come swim. he sighed and kept petting pancho..."I'm staying with pancho. He's having a rough day." And he probably talks to the dog even more than he talks about him. It is almost always in a sing-song-y voice that's usually reserved for babies. "Panchie......did you miss me panchie?.......i was just at school for a little bit." "Panchieeeee....come snuggle with me. are you being a good boy?"
Don't even get me started on how much he talks to his bird.
Yesterday he was listening to a muppets song and the guy is singing..."am i a muppet or a man?...." and miles asked, "how do you talk to yourself?" (hilarious because he talks to himself the entire day. I hear him upstairs with his "guys" that all talk to each other all day long. though i guess that is talking between his toys and not to himself. ) then he said, "Hi. ..... Oh yeah. i can do it now. i just talked to myself."
2 days ago we pulled out our spring/summer garden and planted our fall/winter garden. Some of it was still growing and fine, but it was looking half dead and overgrown. Plus, the soil really needed to be re-worked. I pulled out:
tomatoes
zucchini and squash
all my herbs -they were just too old...some were from last year
green beans
the rest of the beets
lots of cucumber plants
I left the strawberry patch, 4 types of pepper plants, the spaghetti squash, watermelon and cantaloupe since they are all still producing for now.
after adding compost, soil, worm castings, fertilizer and pete moss (all organic) I planted:
-all new herbs-peppermint, spearmint, more basil, cilantro, stevia, dill, sage, thyme, chives, rosemary & oregano.
- broccoli
-green cabbage
-brussel sprouts
-kale, spinach and musclen greens
-snow peas & sugar snap peas
-2 tomato plants that can handle some cold (early girl and celebrity)
-beet seeds and carrot seeds
here's to a happy garden. and to hoping pancho stays out of it.
